I believe the problem isn't in any way an inevitable consequence of "the more people do ... the more problems arise", but of the way we organise ourselves: when we get outside the reach of the market, and focus on the task, people tend to do things pretty well. Once the market is allowed to dictate what gets done, then kludge-upon-kludge is more or less inevitable - to "live to fight another day" quick fixes are needed. Hence the need for a resolutely non-market Open Source movement, etc, even in the midst of a massively market-dominated tech economy. A very interesting post.
